Restoration Services
There are many ways a photo can be enhanced, and for many reasons. I accomplish this through 20+ years of Photoshop and image editing experience. The work is painstaking, meticulous and done with care and attention to your subject. The result is not reality, but it’s as accurate as possible with the tools available today.

Original Photo
The original image is scanned for posterity at the highest resolution possible. It is returned to you for safekeeping, and I can work on the digital copy without risk of damaging the print.

Balance restored
Overall brightening of the surroundings: balancing light and shadow, bringing out details from the darker areas, and punching through the highlights to emphasise focal points.

Scratches and scuffs removed
When you zoom in to a detailed scan, you’ll find countless nicks and scratches on the paper. These are removed and the leftovers seamlessly blended into the image: from tiny scuffs and coffee stains to giant tears on the page.

Sharpening and textures
This is the fun part: highlighting the areas of greatest importance and sharpening their edges – from faces and clothing to signs and foliage.

Details added
While you’d commonly stick with what’s in the image, sometimes it’s necessary to add new elements in order to give the photo a dash of life. Most commonly these are textured skies, eyes and smiles, but can be extended to any details the customer deems worthy of rememberance.

Colourisation
While an optional extra and not necessarily suitable for every project, colourisation gives a startling realism to the piece. I use my intuition on what colours to paint: from dirt and concrete to individual items of clothing. And of course, the customer can lead on their own choices should they have specific information.

Enhance
& Adjust
Red eyes, blemishes, blurring and unwanted obstacles can taint an otherwise lovely photograph. These can be cleaned and tweaked according to your needs. Skin can be smoothened, smiles brightened and eyes brought to life. It’s a similar process behind photoshop editing, whereby products are made to pop out and colours edited to bring out best subject.
Additionally, the photo’s colour and shade levels will be adjusted to best reflect the subject. You’d be surprised what can be brought out of an old photograph with the right balance. A dress can be made bright and vivid – the centre of attention – or you can give photographs that mottled, vintage filter.

Great for
gifts!
By their nature, old photographs are worn and rough; they’re likely to have been in storage for many years, dog-eared and scuffed from handing down the generations. When the time comes to mark a special occasion, celebrate a life or observe an important anniversary, those photos may need treatment – and quickly.
What’s needed is a digital brushup, where unsightly wear and tear is removed to get the old photo looking as clean as possible. It’s subtle, but makes a huge change in quality. Even ugly tears across the photograph can be digitally stitched together and appear as if they were never there.

Photos
Colourised
Painstakingly edited on Photoshop, coloured photographs have all their old shades and hues restored, giving the subject a newfound realism. This makes for a brilliant commemorative gift, or as a means of enriching our history.
You are welcome to direct me on what colours people wore, features that should be enhanced and backgrounds that should be edited or removed. Alternatively, I am happy to use my hunch and colourise the photo according to what seems appropriate.

How to order
For photo restoration services, please send an email to hello@choosebruce.co.uk, detailing the type of work you’d like done. Please send scanned photos in the highest resolution possible via WeTransfer, DropBox or Google Drive. Be extra careful that no dust or dirt is on the scanner lid or photo.
